Horsetail, scientifically known as Equisetum, is a perennial plant found worldwide, typically growing in moist, sandy soils in temperate climates. Historically, horsetail has been utilized in traditional medicine for its purported medicinal properties. The herb contains various bioactive compounds such as silica, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, contributing to its potential health benefits. Silica, in particular, is believed to support bone health, skin health, and hair growth. 

 

Horsetail has also been used traditionally to promote wound healing, alleviate urinary tract issues, fluid retention, and address conditions like osteoporosis and arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

 

Medicinal properties include; astringent, diuretic, styptic and a tissue and kidney tonic. Medicinal uses include; Stop bleeding when applied topically, repairs tissue, aids in healthy skin, treats urinary tract, reduces inflammation.

FUN FACT: Horsetail is a prehistoric herb! Today it resembles grass, but back when dinosaurs were around, it grew much, much taller.
